Youth Leaders

  • Troop Leadership Training (TLT) has been rolled out to replace the Scoutmaster Junior Leader Training Kit. It is organized into
three one-hour modules, which can be taught individually or all in one session. The content of the first session focuses on what a
new leader must know; the second session on what a leader must be, and the third session on what a leader must do. Completing
all three modules qualifies the Scout to wear the "Trained" patch under his badge of office. The new syllabus contains leadership
position cards that define each position in the troop. Completion of TLT prepares the youth to attend National Youth Leadership
Training. Troop 70 will run Troop Leadership Training at least once annually.

  • National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth
members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of
self and others. NYLT is a six-day course. Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate
application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and
aided by the use of memory aids, which allows participants to understand and employ the leadership skills much faster. Scouts may
register through Del-Mar-Va or other area council.

  • National Advanced Youth Leader Experience (NAYLE) is an exciting program where young men enhance their leadership
skills in the Philmont Backcountry. Scouts will expand upon the team building and ethical decision making skills learned in National
Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). NAYLE uses elements of the Philmont Ranger Training as well as advanced Search and
Rescue skills to teach leadership, teamwork and the lessons of selfless service. NAYLE will offer Scouts an unforgettable
backcountry wilderness experience where they live leadership and teamwork, using the core elements of NYLT to make their
leadership skills intuitive. The mission of the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE) is to provide Scouts with a
Philmont based wilderness encounter that motivates them to follow a life of helping others succeed based on the values expressed
in the Scout Oath and Law. Scouts may register at www.nayle.org.
